Voor deze kringloop expo zoekt Kaat in haar atelier naar bruikbare dingen die zij direct in een werk kan gebruiken. Ze vindt opvallend veel kleine spullen in tinten rood en roze. En bouwt er drie figuren mee. Er zitten persoonlijke voorwerpen in, en tweede hands spullen. Een miniatuur van haar eerste gezinsauto. Poppenschoentjes uit haar eigen jeugd. Haar diabolo. Een van haar oude brillenkokers. Een miniatuur uitkijkstoel. Voor bij het zwembad of op de strand. Recente pillenbekertjes. Glazuurbekers. Een miniatuur piano. De houder van haar vliegertouw. Een rode pion. Rood, realiseert ze zich nu, waren ook haar handdoeken en washandjes in haar jeugd. “In mijn werk vier ik het alledaagse van het leven. Ik gebruik veel voorwerpen voor mijn werken. Vaak maak ik ze na in klei of verwerk ik ze in een film. Het zijn hedendaagse stillevens.” Three flamingos For this expo I search my studio for useful things that I can use directly in a work. I find a striking amount of small items in shades of red and pink. And build three figures with it.They contain personal items and second-hand items. A miniature of our first family car. Doll shoes from my childhood. My diabolo. One of my old glasses cases. A miniature lookout chair. For at the pool or on the beach. Recent pill cups. And cups I used for glazes. A miniature piano. The holder of my kite string. A red pawn. Red, I now realize, was also the colour of my towels and washcloths in my youth. “In my work I celebrate the mundane of life. I use many things for my works. I often recreate them in clay or incorporate them into a film. They are contemporary still lifes.”
