WG Kunst opent haar deuren voor de 2e editie van het Miami New Media Festival Amsterdam met 18 video werken: vijf werken geselecteerd via de recente oproep met als thema REPAIR, vijf werken van uitgenodigde kunstenaars en negen werken uit de internationale selectie van de “Global Healing”-editie (2023).
Geselecteerd zijn Nature strikes back van Bethany de Forest, We all are van Sophia Pechler, The Pace van Debora van der Vliet, Stitching the blue Sky van Tinca Veerman en Mnemosyne Cabinet van Mentincan Güzel.
Gastartiesten zijn Francisca Khamis Giacoman, Ahmad Mallah & Rebecca Lillich Krüger, Alidya Weber & Ryan Oduber, Esther Polak & Ivar van Bekkum en Nayari Castillo.
Van de internationale selectie is er werk van María Korporal (DE), Johannes Christopher Gerard (NL), Fran Orallo (SP), Sara Bonaventura & Gianmarco Leprozo (IT) , Alydia Wever & Ryan Oduber (AW/NL) , Pedro Morales (USA/VZL), Laura Cabrera & Sira Cabrera (SP) , Matteo Campulla (IT) en Steven Baboun (HAT) met RANTRE.
Hugo Palmar kunstenaar en coördinator van MNMF Amsterdam stelt; “in tijden van directheid en het overwicht van beeld en nieuwe technologieën over de realiteit, het tijd is om te vragen naar de reikwijdte van digitale kunst, videokunst en nieuwe media; in de mogelijkheid om in te grijpen in gebieden van gevoelige realiteit, het zichtbaar maken van visuele, virtuele, digitale inhoud die nieuwe manieren van denken over ons heden bevordert.”
De term “REPAIR” komt van het Latijnse woord reparare (opnieuw voorbereiden, herstellen, repareren, iets terugbrengen naar zijn vorige staat, opnieuw vaststellen), en van het werkwoord reparar, samengesteld uit re- (terug, opnieuw) en het werkwoord parare (voorbereiden, uitrusten, verkrijgen).
Op 28 april vindt er een discussie plaats bij WG Kunst die ook online te volgen is, met deelname van enkele van de uitgenodigde kunstenaars, zoals Ryan Oduber, Alydia Weber, Nayarí Castillo, Ahmad Mallah en Rebecca Lillich Krüger, om hun connecties met het thema REPAIR te bespreken. OPENING vrijdag 26 april 2024 van 17.00-20.00 uur met een optreden van de PERPETUAL BIKE CRASH, gevormd door Francisco Garrido (gitaar en compositie), Micheal Murray (altsax) en Joshua Lutz (piano en keyboards), met minimalistische soundscapes vol beelden en filmische herinneringen.

From April 26 to 28, the WGKunst headquarters (WG Terrein) will open its doors to present the 2nd edition of the Miami New Media Festival Amsterdam with 18 video art proposals: five works selected through the recent call, five works by invited artists, and nine works from the international selection of the “Global Healing” edition (2023). The opening event will take place from 5:00 to 8:00 pm, and for the rest of the days, the exhibition will be open from 1:00 to 6:00 pm, with free admission.
The recent call dedicated to artists residing in the Netherlands and conducted under the curatorial theme “REPAIR” selected the following works: Nature strikes back by Bethany Forest, We all are/We zijn allemaall by Sophia Pechler, The Pace by Debora van der Vliet, Stitching the blue Sky by Tinka Veerman, and Mnemosyne Cabinet by Mentincan Güzel.
Also participating as guest artists are Francisca Khamis Giacoman, Ahmad Mallah & Rebecca Lillich Krüger with, Alidya Weber & Ryan Oduber, Esther Polak & Ivar van Bekkum, and Nayari Castillo.

The details were shared by MNMF Amsterdam’s coordinator, artist Hugo Palmar, who elaborated that “in times of immediacy and the predominance of image and new technologies over reality, it is timely to ask about the scope of digital art, video art, and new media; in the possibility of intervening in areas of sensitive reality, making visible visual, virtual, digital content that promotes new ways of thinking about our present.”
The term “REPAIR” comes from the Latin word reparare (to prepare anew, restore, repair, return something to its previous state, re-establish), and from the verb reparar, composed of re- (back, again), and the verb parare (to prepare, equip, procure). “Commonly, Repair can be understood as fixing something that is broken, mending; but it can also mean to amend, satisfy the offended, foresee harm or damage, and bringing the term closer to a more legal language, it implies an ideal of justice,” reads the call.
Hugo Palmar announced that the opening event will feature a concert by the musical group PERPETUAL BIKE CRASH, formed by Francisco Garrido (guitar and composition), Micheal Murray (alto sax) and Joshua Lutz (piano and keyboards), who invite you to share their minimalist soundscapes, full of images and cinematic reminiscences.
In addition, on April 28th, there is a planned in-person and online discussion, with the participation of some of the invited artists, such as Ryan Oduber, Alydia Weber, Nayarí Castillo, Ahmad Mallah, and Rebecca Lillich Krüger, to discuss their connections with the theme REPAIR.
